Today I'm starting a new feature...Wilderness Wednesday!
I will post about the great outdoors. Hikes, camping, etc.
| January 2010 |
Today's post is about one of my favorite easy hikes:
Rattlesnake Ledge
I chose this hike because it's one I like to start off with if I haven't hiked in a while.
(Which is the case right now)
It's only 2 miles up, and it actually provides pretty amazing views!
Plus it's hike-able year-round.

This would also be a good time to share my favorite source
for local hiking information, Washington Trails Association.
What I love about this site is that many people post trip reports,
so you are able to find fairly recent information about trail conditions.
This is especially helpful when you're waiting
for conditions to improve in the spring.
Why not let someone test it for you?
I also really like the Sasquatch Day Hike! guidebooks,
and this particular hike is found in the Central Cascades version.

You start the hike at Rattlesnake Lake, pictured above.

At the top you have a nice view of Mount Si across the valley (above).

It can get pretty windy, but clear skies or clouds it's beautiful up there.
If you want to take it farther and you have two cars available,
you can do the point-to-point Rattlesnake Ridge trail.
It's 11 miles but not too difficult.
Emily and I did it last year and it snowed like crazy.
Oh yeah, and we also encountered a hailstorm.

Ok now I really want to get out on a hike...
Let me know if you have any suggestions for next week!
