Day 339: soft kitty

I'm back from Whidbey, I just finished my paper,
and I have a massive headache.

But isn't Bobby so cute sleeping on my lap?
If you know the soft kitty song from the Big Bang Theory, sing it now.
My cats are pretty happy to have me back.
I missed them soooo much and I was only gone one night.
Not sure how I'm going to handle being away from them for 6 days...

Conference at 7am tomorrow,
time to get some sleep.

Day 338: boating

I'm spending the weekend on Whidbey with the fam.
We took the boat over to LaConner for dinner.
Behold, my favorite photos from the day.
All unedited. I didn't even feel like cropping. I'm on island time.

Day 337: bingo

Two momentous things happened today.
I locked myself out of my apartment,
and Kelly won at bingo!

Huge thank you to Kelly for driving me to Woodinville to get my spare keys.
And for putting your phone in your blizzard because that was hilarious.

Thursday Happy Thoughts

This is the tradition formally known as 10 Things I Love Thursday.
I was feeling guilty for totally stealing Elsie's name for her list of favorites,
and figured it was high time I got my own.
Also, sometimes it's hard to come up with 10 original things every week.
So from now on, every Thursday will be...

Thursday Happy Thoughts!

1. This bag is lovely. From Urban Outfitters, I'll take one in yellow.

2. This show (photo source). I watched the pilot episode years ago
but just started getting the dvds from Netflix. Season 1 Disc 2 arrived
yesterday and it's my reward for doing my homework. Love it!

3. Tea (illustration by Tabitha Emma). In an effort to stop buying
Americanos every afternoon at school I've switched to Earl Gray.
Plus the fall-ish weather makes tea sound so good!

I had forgotten about a lot of this stuff, like making mixtapes
by recording songs off the radio and using a phonebook. Weird!

5. The Almost Live version of Summer in Seattle
Embedding for this video has been disabled, but you can
watch it here on youtube. So funny! I miss that show.

6. This bag with the fox print! From Urban Outfitters. So cute.

7. This scarf with sheep on it. Also from Urban. I loooove it.

That's it for this week. Thanks for reading!

Day 336: feels like the last day of summer camp

This is the view from where I've spent 8 hour days doing physics labs
for the past 5 weeks. Tomorrow is our final exam and the end of the program
(until next summer! I get to do it up to three years). Today was mainly review
and I admittedly spent the majority of my time socializing with the people
I've gotten to know in the program. I've made some great friends and I'm
going to miss seeing them! Fortunately some of them live close by,
and Millie has a blog I can keep up with. It was so fun to spend those weeks
with other teachers who are all nerdy about science like me.
I also feel really inspired and can't wait to get back into my classroom.
Tomorrow is the final exam...wish me luck!

Day 335: dinner from the yard

For dinner tonight I picked some beans, kale, broccoli, and basil.
I cooked up some pasta, mixed it all together, and tossed on some Parmesan.
I am so in love with having a vegetable garden!

P.S. I just realized this is day 335, which means I only have 30 days
left of Project 365. Still trying to figure out what I'm going to do after that...

Day 334: new books

A couple new books arrived from Amazon today:
The Perfect Scoop, which I've heard amazing things about
and Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades
which has a 5 star rating and will teach me how to grow veggies year-round!
Exciting times!

Herbed Summer Squash and Potato Torte

This is a Smitten Kitchen recipe,
so you know it's going to be good!
I followed the recipe exactly as written here
and it's also outlined below with my photos.

Herbed Summer Squash and Potato Torte

I enjoyed mine with some Field Roast apple sage "sausage". Yum!

Day 333: Eastlake P-Patch

One of my favorite places to walk to in the evening is the Eastlake P-Patch.
It's always so inspiring to walk through other peoples' vegetable gardens!
I'm thinking my strip of "lawn" where my raised beds are needs to come out
and lots of veggies need to go in next year.

Neko Case

source
It's Music Monday
First of all let me say that posting about this lady
is incredibly daunting. I have loved every song she's ever recorded.
She has an incredible voice, writes beautiful songs,
and hails from the PNW. I'm always surprised to find out some
people still haven't heard her music. That, my friends, is a crime.
So here are just a few of my favorite Neko Case songs.
Now please go buy all of her albums. You will not regret it.

First a more recent tune. The lyrics are brilliant.

Next a song I like to sing at the top of my lungs
on long lonely drives at night:

Next a live performance of one of my favorites:

Her love song to her home town...Tacoma, WA!

And one more of her newer ones...so pretty.

I've seen her live a couple times.
We even saw her on the balcony outside the
Paramount and waved to her once!
I managed to stop myself from falling to the ground
and declaring my love for her. Probably a good thing...
they might not have let me in otherwise.
She's one of my all time favorites. All time.
That's serious business.

Day 332: Snohomish Raspberries

This morning I met Kate and her mom in Snohomish.
We shared a few delicious  items from the Snohomish Bakery.

Then we picked some organic raspberries.
They are enormous and so so tasty.

Since then I've been baking all afternoon.
Two new recipes, but only one will be featured on Tuesday.
Savory or sweet? Comment if you have a preference :)

And because no post is complete without cat photos,
some moments from this morning:

Now to finish that paper that's due tomorrow...

Day 331: fish party!

This was the star of the BBQ this afternoon...
meet Stevie Noms.
She's soooo cute!
We had mojitos, delicious wild Alaskan cedar planked salmon,
and just-picked raspberries with fresh whipped cream.
Great way to spend an afternoon!
