Day 308: cat fountain

I spent the entire evening running errands.
I felt bad for my kitties, so I bought them toys and this present...
a cat drinking fountain.

They aren't sure how they feel about it yet.

Day 307: garden update and out with the physics crew

I took these photos in my garden earlier today.
I am so amazed at how quickly some plants can grow!
The peas are taller than I am (not that that's saying much)
and the squash is noticeably larger every time I see it.
I've been making salads with my lettuce and it won't be long
before I have other veggies to harvest. Exciting!

After a long day of class and some after hours in the library,
I came home to to do dishes and make dinner.
Some of the people in my physics class were getting together
for beers on the Ave, so I decided to join.
I hesitated because I have so much I should have been doing,
but I'm so glad I decided to go! It was fun to get to know some of the
other teachers better over a few pitchers.
Making new friends is hard - I am so awkward!

It so happened that I was the only Seattleite in the bunch.
Pretty fun to sit and chat with people from all over the country.
I hope we go on other outings in the future.

Day 306: transportation

Today's photo assignment was transportation.
I've been taking the bus to school, but I didn't want to
take a picture of the bus and have people look at me weird.
So I went with my bike on my porch.
Which still needs to be fixed.
That's on the to do list that just keeps getting longer.

In other news, I've decided that I'm just going to have to be
a terrible blogger this week and skip the extra features.
Still trying to adjust to this new schedule and doing physics
labs from 9-4 every day is pretty exhausting.
The good news is that Andriana and Jesse's wedding is
this Saturday so I will have lots of awesome photos to share next week!
I'll get back in the swing of things somehow.
Stay tuned and thanks for bearing with me.

Day 305: margaritas

Tonight we had a going away dinner for my buddy Jill.
She's moving to Texas soon, boo.
We enjoyed some margaritas and Mexican food.

This was a much needed treat after my first day back in school.
My program is great so far but it's tough to be in class for so long.
I love being back in school, though, because you actually meet people!
I went out to lunch and had taco truck with some classmates.
It felt like college again. So fun!

Good day but I'm still feeling super behind on all aspects of life.
My house looks like a bomb went off, I'm behind on my blog,
I haven't started any of my online masters coursework,
I haven't finished last week's painting assignment or looked at this week's,
and I have a million errands to run. Instead I'm watching Twin Peaks...

Days 303-304: cabin weekend!

As I mentioned in my last post, I've been gone all weekend.
On Saturday morning I picked up one of my best friends, Jason,
from the airport and we headed down to his family's cabin
for a little birthday weekend celebration. His birthday was Saturday
and he's home from med school for the week.

On the first day we went fishing, kayaked,

made sangria...

and in the evening had a fire and sang songs.

Today there was more kayaking
(I went in my pajamas, it was awesome)

lots of relaxing by the water
too many beers and glasses of wine

and a few naps in the sun.

I had SO much fun and it's going to make it all the more difficult
to start school tomorrow. I'll be in class from 9-4. Boo!

Day 302: engagement party

Sorry to have gone missing again!
Things got a little crazy and then I was gone all weekend.
I'm back now and have a lot of catching up to do, so here I go!
Starting with Friday June 24:

On Friday night I attended a surprise party to celebrate
the engagement of my friends DJ and Lauren.
He proposed at dinner and surprised her with this
gathering of all their family and friends.
I'm so excited for them!

Conveniently, Friday's photo assignment was "love". Easy!

Days 300-301: photo update

Yesterday's photo: the end of the year staff party got pretty wild.

Today's photo: hiking on Teanaway Ridge

30 Day Photo Fun - landscape

30 Day Photo Fun - black and white

Sorry to be MIA for a while, I'll get caught up tomorrow.

Day 299: today's photos

Today's photo is from my frozen yogurt recipe.

The 30 Day Photo Fun assignment was close up.
So here are some pea tendrils in my garden.

I am exhausted and will probably go to bed right now
while it's still super light outside (longest day of the year!).
Tomorrow's the last day of school! Crazy.

Coconut Cherry Frozen Yogurt

Costco had a coupon for an ice cream maker...
and I needed a little happy end of the school year present.
I had a hankering for some coconut sorbet,
but came across this recipe that looked delicious.
And it's on Smitten Kitchen so you know it's good.

This recipe only has 5 ingredients!
It's a whopping 77 degrees in Seattle today,
so this is definitely needed.

So easy and delicious!

Day 298: around the corner, down the street, and on canvas

First of all, around the corner:
My neighbor has some gorgeous poppies in the yard.
I really need to plant some next year!

Then down the street to my favorite little park.
My photo assignment for today was water.

And on canvas, I finally finished my painting for class.
It's a day late. Oops.
Our assignment was based on Gee's Bend quilts.
I was inspired by the one below:

Now that I look at my painting it looks like a butterfly.
That was not intentional... hm.
I'm not super happy with it but I want to move on to the next assignment.

In other news, I only have two days left of work!

Cults (the band)

I'm really loving this new band, Cults.
They just put out their debut album this month.
You can listen to the whole thing free on their website
I LOVE this song:

Lumberjack Bachelorette!

Andriana and I have been besties since 9th grade,
and she's getting married in less than two weeks!
To celebrate, this crew of wild ladies (pictured above)
set out for a lumberjack adventure in Leavenworth.

We rented a house on the river.
Hightlights included white water rafting the Wenatchee river,
exploring the town in our lumberjack attire,
games galore, and a photoshoot on the deck.

This is an amazing group of ladies (men?)
and I had so much fun spending the weekend with them!

We are all so happy and excited for our little bride-to-be.

Thanks to some interesting work with the
remote for my camera (cough, Kelly, cough),
I was able to put together a little video of the action using photos:

Love you, AY! Can't wait for the wedding!
