{365 of 2012} Week 12

This is a little late, but this week has been a little crazy. 

Next week is spring break. I think I can...I think I can...

Whidbey Weekends

After a week like this (wait, it's only been two days?!) 

it's hard to believe that I spent the weekend like this... 

I read a whole book in a day (The Highest Tide - loved it),  

I spent some time on the beach... 

Played with my new lens. SO different from my wide angle. 

 Sunshine? A little. 

Time to relax, check my favorite weather blog, 

and watch the sunset from the window. 

Whidbey weekends are another world.

 One of my favorite parts of the weekend is taking time to cook breakfast. 

Oatmeal with dried blueberries. Yum! 

 Newsflash - I like mushrooms now!

Mushroom Gravy and Kale by Oh She Glows. Super tasty. 

 I am kind of into toys right now...first the new lens and now a writing tablet! 

 So much homework... 

 Hailstorm. Don't worry I was stopped at a light. 

 Dean has been really into modeling lately.

Anacortes Finds

Saturday's Anacortes Antiquing Adventure 

yielded some lovely new treasures. 

Best of all, once I started editing the photos 

I realized they are all color coordinated! 

I didn't even plan it that way. 

I am a nerd. This is not news to anyone, I'm sure. 

 This lovely mug will soon become a pin cushion next to my sewing machine. 

I will be using Stephanie's DIY - can't wait to try it! 

 The curious little kittens just loooove to destroy seedlings in the kitchen. 

This little "cage" will be perfect for protecting my future vegetables. 

 I have had my eye out for the perfect cookie jar for ages. 

Kelly spotted this one for me and it was love at first sight. 

It's neutral and simple and will go with anything.

 The yellow lid hooked me. Jars are always handy to have around. 

 If this hadn't been broken, Kelly might have taken it home instead of me. 

HUNGER GAMES. Just needs a little super glue I hope. 

 I came across this treasure in the first store we walked into. 

Yellow + white + knitted + pillow = perfect. 

Dean has claimed it as his own. 

Kitty approved. Must be good. 

something fun came in the mail today...

I was totally inspired by Elsie's story of using a writing tablet to write on photos. 

I am still getting used to the writing, but I think it will get easier. 

 I can see myself using this a lot at home AND in my classroom. 

Win-win. 

Anacortes Antiquing Adventure

On Saturday some girlfriends and I took a little day trip to Anacortes. 

 Lauren (left) and Kelly (right) were there... 

 and so was Megan (petting the painted dog). 

Notice all these ladies are hyperlinked... 

They are friends in real life and in blog life! 

We hit up the antique shops and all found treasures pretty quickly. 

I really wanted to take home this giant sculpture because 

it reminded me of the Hunger Games. Don't worry, it stayed at the store. 

 We had lunch at the Rock Fish Grill. 

The IPA was awesome and they had a vegan chili on the menu. 

We shopped even more after lunch and 

were exhausted by the time we headed home. 

It was such a fun day with fun girls who have similar interests!

Alysn's Baby Shower

 My friend Alysn from college is having a baby in May! 

Carrie and I threw her a shower last Sunday. 

We have thrown our fair share of bridal showers 

so we were good at splitting up tasks and DIYing everything. 

 For favors, Carrie found these gorgeous primroses. 

I stole an ultrasound photo from Alysn's online album, 

ordered wallet-size prints from Costco, 

and made tags by gluing them onto popsicle sticks with cardstock. 

I also punched a little heart out of the paper I used for invites, etc. 

 Here is that same paper used for cupcake toppers and wrappers.
Ben Franklin has a die cut for this wrapper - so handy! 

I made the toppers using a punch, glue, and toothpicks. 

 The cupcakes were tricky because Alysn is gluten-free 

and I'm vegan. I wanted to cater to the guest of honor 

but knew I couldn't bake cupcakes without 

eating the batter and frosting along the way. 

I used this recipe for Very Vanilla Vegan Cupcakes. 

They were actually really easy and I thought they tasted good. 

 This is Alysn and Jon's dog, Frankie. 

He was very well-behaved during the festivities. 

 And here's the beautiful mom-to-be! 

 Carrie and her mom made these gorgeous flower arrangements. 

The lilies smelled SO good. 

 I made a banner using the die cut machine, 

a paper trimmer and some ribbon. 

 Carrie made this incredible diaper cake using 

the gogreendiapers Alysn wanted and some toys. 

 I was in charge of food, so I made sure everything was gluten-free. 

I made a quinoa/veggie salad and a fruit salad, 

and then we had rice crackers, cheese, veggies and hummus. 

For drinks we had punch and iced tea with cute paper straws. 

 One thing that made the shower extra-fun was having our moms join in.

And my personal favorite present, this sweater. 

MY MOM KNIT THIS. Isn't it cool?! 

She got a pair of jeans to go with it. 

Add the mocs and Alysn can have a little hipster baby. 

My mom might start selling these sweaters at the Fremont Market. 

I think they would be a total hit! 

This was a really fun afternoon spent with good friends. 

It's hard to believe that soon I will be driving up to Bellingham 

to visit this new little baby. Honestly babies terrify me. 

I am excited to conquer my fear and learn how to be an "auntie".
