Guest Post: Pincushion DIY

Dudes...have I got a treat for you this fine Tuesday morning.
Stephanie from living on love is here to share a fun project that uses
two of my favorite things to collect... vintage dishes and fabric!

hello! im stephanie & i blog over at living on love
i am a huge fan of all things vintage & sometimes
i have a tendency to get a little carried away with my collecting.
seriously, how many vintage pyrex mugs
in the golden butterfly pattern does one girl need?
well i decided to rescue a few from the dark kitchen cupboard
where i store my "i love this, but don't know what to do with yet"
collection of vintage pieces & turn them into pin cushions.
its so quick & easy...

supplies needed:

- a mug or small bowl.
- a round object to trace.
- a scrap of fabric approximately 10" x 10"
- needle & thread.
- felt.
- hot glue gun.
- embroidery hoop (optional).

1. lay out your fabric flat, place a large bowl or plate on top of it,
& then trace around it & cut it out. the size of your bowl will depend
on the size of mug you are making your pin cushion out of.
you want your fabric circle to be about 3-4" bigger all the way around the mug.

2. cut a design out of felt. it could be anything...
hearts, an arrow, circle, flowers, etc. arrange them in the middle
of the fabric & stitch down using embroidery floss & a needle.
i like to put an embroidery hoop on my fabric to help keep it taunt
& so i can visualize where the middle is.
also, keep your design size smaller than the opening of the mug.

3. do a running stitch all the way around the edge of the fabric,
but don't tie it off at the end just yet...

4. make sure the fabric is right side out, pull on the end
of the running stitch to get it to gather up, & then fill it will stuffing.
when you've stuffed it all it can be stuffed, continue pulling on the end
of the running stitch to gather it completely shut & then tie a knot.

5. squish your little fabric poof around a little to shape it
& then use a hot glue gun to glue it inside of your mug.

Holly here again. Isn't Stephanie so creative?!
She always has fun projects on her blog and sells
cute homemade things in her etsy shop
Go check it out! I can't wait to make one of these...
