There are 4 hikes that I am absolutely dying to do around here.
I'm hoping to tackle some of them this summer.
These are my dream hikes:
1. Mailbox Peak
I can attempt this one in early summer
once I've had a chance to get back into hiking shape...
2. Olympic Coast (north, backpack)
This one is a matter of planning. You have to be wary of the tides.
This one should be easy to make happen over a 3-day weekend.
Who wants to join me??
3. Summerland (Rainier)
Someday I'd love to tackle more of the wonderland trail
on a lengthy backpacking trip,
but summerland/panhandle gap looks like a pretty
amazing, though long, day hike that's doable this summer.
4. Enchantment Lakes
Jason and I were both denied permits in the lottery this year :(
He suggested we might be able to do a really long day hike.
I need to start training!
Ok so who wants to join me on one or all of these?? Anyone? Hello?
Those are all on my list too! Especially the Olympic Coast and Enchantment trips. For the Enchantments, not getting a permit in the lottery doesn't mean you can't still go that year. They keep a certain number of pases reserved for drop ins at the ranger station. If you have somewhere to stay out in the area and head over to the station really early, you can usually get one after a day or two. That's what I plan to do this summer!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely try the lottery system for the Enchantments! That's how we got permits the first time I went (last year and this year I didn't apply at all but was lucky enough to get invited on other people's trips, woohoo)!
ReplyDeleteMailbox is a great thigh burner...the mailbox itself is covered by snow right now, but it should be visible again by May. The last time I was there we met an actual mailman, he was wearing his uniform and everything. :)
