AY here again.
how to install your own extensions
you will need:
- feather extension or loose feathers
- crimp bead with silicone lining
- waxed string or fishing line
- needle nose pliers
- hair
if your feathers are loose, just bundle a few and wrap the tips with thread to secure the bundle together (feathers on left are bundles, feathers on right are loose).
once you have your extension ready, make a threader by looping the string or fishing line through the crimp bead
decide where you want your extension, and section off a very small bundle of hair. put the hair through the threader loop.
pull the loose ends of the string loop back through the bead to thread your hair.
stick the end of your feather extension through the bead.
be sure the bead-hair-extension is at the root of your hair. use the needle nose pliers to crimp the bead flat. thank you to the innocent bystander who let me use his head as a demo.
(sorry this photo step is not more detailed, scalps are gross)
give your hair a tossle and your feathers are installed! if your hair is wet like mine, you can blow dry and style your hair as you normally would.
to remove the extension, you can wait a few weeks for it to fall out on its own, or just use the pliers again to crimp the bead open by squishing it from the opposite sides.
a few things about feather extensions:
- you can buy them individually or in pre-made bundles online at etsy
- you can wash them and blow dry them
- they can be flat ironed or straightened
- they do not damage your hair
- they are a much better alternative than dying or highlighting your hair (like that one time my hair stylist accidentally made me blonde [i'm asian] and it took years to grow it all out [my hair is over 2 feet long])
thank you holly for letting me hang out on your blog today!
It's nice to see that you are doing well with hairextensions.
